At the Internet Archive, we are working on the technology to make this much easier.
We just tested the HP laserjet 2200dn and it works fine (but it is not color which is a shame).
We are getting a "national account" with powis parker so we can get discounts on the equipment and binding covers, so if you want to coordinate, let us know and you can test out this buying approach. (this will help us as well by building a larger buying pool).

if you are up for it, pls use this forum for your communications so we have a consistent place to share info and experiences.

Thanks for the encouragement. My plan is to be on the road some time in February – buying the cutter and binder is scheduled toward the end of the start up phase. I think it is a great idea for internetbookmobiles across the country to band together for “buying power” and exchange of ideas. Anything I can do to help let me know. I’m in the process of becoming “legal” – setting up a non-profit corp. and applying for tax-free status. I’m revising the budget and business plan based of feedback from my lawyer and accountant. It should be done in a week or so. If any one is interested in seeing it let me know – Glad to share the non-personal parts. I dislike seeing “under construction” but hate “future home of” so I put up a quick splash page on the web site – internetbookmobile.com – any one wanting to email me can at: info@internetbookmobile.com.

Brewster et al.; Please count me in for the "buyers coop". I am ready to purchase any time, so if you let me know the pricing and ordering details...we can get it under way.
